How do I become a disciple of Jesus?
Do you like good news? The Bible offers you the best news you could ever hear: Your sins can be forgiven and you can become a child of God by faith in Jesus Christ. Although the good news about Jesus is profound, it's also simple. Here's an explanation:
A - Admit
Admit that you are a sinner. Admit Jesus was right when he taught that your sin justly deserves to be punished in hell. Admit that you need to be saved from sin’s power in your life and its everlasting punishment. (Matthew 10:28; 18:9; 25:41; Romans 3:23; 6:23a; Revelation 20:11-15)
B - Believe
Believe that, unlike you, Jesus never sinned. Believe that in His righteousness Jesus loved you. He loved you so much that He died on the cross to take the punishment for your sin. Three days later Jesus rose from the dead, revealing His victory over sin and death. He commands you to believe that His death on the cross is sufficient to save you from sin's power and punishment. (John 3:16; Romans 5:8-10; Acts 16:31; 1 Peter 3:18)
C - Confess
Confess that you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 says "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." By confessing your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you’ll gain two big things: (1) the Holy Spirit’s power to help you fight against sin and
(2) the promise of everlasting life with Jesus in heaven after death.
D - Demonstrate
Demonstrate that you are a new person in Christ. If we've truly Admitted we are sinners; Believed Jesus died for our sin and rose again and; Confessed Him as our Lord and Savior, then we will Demonstrate our faith by living as a radically-changed, heaven-bound disciple of Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
